Additional resources will go into flooding and building resiliency programs.
President Biden’s administration announced last week that it will be putting an extra $3 billion into two Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) programs. The Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program will receive $2.3 billion to fund projects that bolster community infrastructure against natural hazards. The Flood Mitigation Assistance program will receive $800 million for reducing flood risks across the country.
“Chronic lack of investment in climate resilience has only made matters worse for America’s crumbling infrastructure,” FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell stated. “Unfortunately, these issues are magnified in historically underserved communities.” Through the funding “we seek to correct this injustice and ensure that every community is better able to prepare before disasters strike,” the administrator said.
